SYWO Points
SYWO Championship Point System
Purpose:
To declare SYWO champion in each weight class without having to identify a single tournament or require past participation in tournaments. A point system will be used to determine the SYWO champion per weight class.

How to earn Points:
Wrestlers placing in the first four positions of each tournament will earn points based on place.
Here is the breakdown:
  • 1st Place: 10pts
  • 2nd Place: 8pts
  • 3rd Place: 5pts
  • 4th Place: 4pts
These points will be accumulated per wrestler during the SYWO season to determine the SYWO champion at the end of the final tournament.

Rules for the point system:
  1. Accumulation of Points:
Wrestlers will earn points based on a 1st – 4th place finish for that perspective place only. A wrestler cannot transfer points from one weight class to another (e.g. Points scored at 93lbs cannot be used at 100lbs)
  2. Points Scored in different weight classes:
A wrestler can earn points in different weight classes and multiple age classes. A wrestler can only win one championship per age class (e.g. can win one weight class championship in Class II and one in Class III if they qualify for both classes).
  3. Earning Points in Combined Tournament Weight Classes:
There are tournaments in which weight classes are combined to facilitate competition for low attendance. If two weight classes are combined, final tournament results will reflect points based on results and weight class. The initial (actual) results are based on the heaviest weight class but lighter wrestles will win points for the lighter weight class. Therefore, a wrestler can earn points in both weight classes as long as he does not weight too much for the other classes.

The following is an example: assume there were three wrestlers at 125 and two at 132. The decision is made by the tournament director to combine both weight classes into a round-robin. The actual round-robin bracket result will be based on 132lbs. The 132lb wrestlers must finish in the top four to get points while the 125lb wrestlers can earn points in both 125lb weight class and 132lbs class. If a 132lb wrestler doesn’t finish in the top four, there will be no points awarded. The three at 125lbs will finish 1st – 3rd at 125lbs. Individual results among the 125lb wrestlers will determine the positioning. The 125lb wrestlers can earn will earn points in both weight classes if they finish in the top four of the 132lb round-robin. It is technically possible for a single wrestler at 125lb to win first place finishes and gain points for 1st place in both weight classes. The posted results of each tournament shall reflect this result process.
  4. Wrestlers in Multiple weights and multiple rankings:
After the last tournament is completed, a wrestler can win and finish 1st in only one weight class per age class. If a wrestler wins first in one weight and second in another weight, after the last tournament, the second place ranking is eliminated for that weight. If at the end of the final tournament a wrestler ranks 1st in more than one weight (for a given age class), the weight in which he has the most points will be his championship weight class. If the wrestler has the same points for more than one 1st place ranking, then he/she will be declared the winner of the higher weight class. Then the wrestler will be removed from the lower weight class rankings.
  5. Ranking Tie-Breakers:
If at the end of the final tournament two or more wrestlers are tied for first in a weight class, the following rules will split the tie based on the current year in the five SYWO tournaments:
    1. head to head competition in the SYWO season (1pt per win – this only matters if there is a three way tie)
    2. Head to Head competition in the final tournament (if both are there)
    3. Participation in the final tournament
    4. Finish or record in the final tournament
    5. Number of pins in the final tournament
    6. Total points scored in the final tournament
    7. # of 1st place wins in SYWO age class (multiple weights do count)
    8. # of 2nd place wins in SYWO age class (multiple weights do count)
    9. # of 3nd place wins in SYWO age class (multiple weights do count)
    10. Number of SYWO tournaments entered
    11. Number of top four finishes in other age classes
